Three Important Health facts

Friday, October 8th, 2010

The first health fact is that the human body is Self Regulating. Your nervous system is in constant control of all your cells, organs and body functions. Your body self regulates with the help of the nervous system.  Your heart beat will increase as needed and slow down as needed without you having to tell it what to do. When your body heats up from working out it will begin to sweat to help get rid of the heat, your kidneys and digestive tract are constantly working without your conscious help.

The real question is how is your nervous system functioning?  Is it able to self regulate you? A spinal check by a doctor at HealthFirst can determine how well it’s functioning. we will cover the second fact in our next posting.

Wellcare Model – vs – Disease Care Model

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

There is one word that separates wellcare from disease care.  This word is RESPONSIBILITY. A person that chooses the well-care model takes more responsibility in all of their health actions. They exercise regularly, eat healthier, sleep well and have positive attitudes. The disease care model people choose not to be responsible and do not exercise or choose healthy foods. They allow their bodies to gain weight, become diseased and then want a magic drug to counter act their symptoms. Unfortunately this is the model that most Americans choose. If we want to change our health care problems in our country, then we all have to become more responsible for our health and make better choices.

Low Back Pain

Monday, October 4th, 2010

It seems that low back pain has become a very common ailment. Low back pain is most commonly caused by vertebra in the spine becoming misaligned. Injuries and traumas to the back go undetected for many years and eventually become symptomatic.

We often find arthritis and degeneration in the spines of our patients and that indicates that there has been abnormal wear and function for good length of time. As the spine weakens it becomes dysfunctional and can cause pressure and irritation to the spinal nerves. This will create low back pain and sharp muscle spasms. Chiropractic care is very effective in treating low back pain, muscle spasms and disc conditions.

Getting a Grip on Stress

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

I’m finding more of my patients with increased stress. It’s time to take more responsibility in your day to day lifestyle choices to help combat the damages of stress. I have three simple steps to help you get a grip on stress.

1. Find time to get some form of exercise.( Walking, jogging, yoga, Pilate’s)

2. Eat to live. Your body needs nutrients to perform properly. Choose foods that are high in delivering the most vitamins and minerals. Foods from plants (vegetables) should be consumed on a regular basis. Stay away from sugar, it depletes your immune system and weakens your body.

3. Sleep your night away. Getting 6-8 hours of sleep each day will provide your body with the re- charge it needs to carry out all your daily functions.
