Tennis Elbow Chiropractic Treatment

December 1st, 2010

Pickerington tennis elbow, the layman’s term for Lateral Epicondylitis, is the most prevalent illness of the upper body.

But you do not have to be a tennis player to experience lateral epicondylitis. Tennis elbow is caused by excessive strain in the muscles of the forearm (wrist extensor group) which is commonly seen in tennis players, carpenters, secretaries, manual laborers and many more professions. So any activity which requires repetitive wrist extension is intrinsically what causes tennis elbow, according to Dr. Dennis Schone. Localized pain in the tendo periosteal junction where the common extensor tendon originates from (outer area of the elbow) is a common complaint in 9 out of 10 cases of tennis elbow. Pain radiating to the back of the forearm and wrist area may also be the experience of some patients with tennis elbow.

OH tennis elbow can be a challenge because it needs lengthy treatment course due to the lack of a tendon sheath. The common extensor origin is more muscle like than tendon like, except that it has a very poor blood supply and is not benefited by the fluid nutrition that is found within a tendon sheath.

Your Chiropractor at Columbus Chiropractic will perform a thorough history and examination including orthopaedic and neurological testing to determine the extent of your tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). With the findings, they will develop a custom plan of management just for your case.

Hip Pains Pickerington

November 22nd, 2010

In order for a dislocation to be caused, a major force would need to be used due to the stability of the hip. Bone or joint damaging can easily occur in the hip. Unfortunately, the hip bones in seniors, of OH, run the increased risk of fracture from degenerative damage. Hip pain is more likely caused by age than other joints (for instance: infant disorders, adolescent trauma, fractures in seniors, etc.).

Some patients describe their pain as being located in the hip; however, more often the pain is related to the buttocks region and/or the back. The hip joint is complicated; pain can be caused by a variety of factors including its internal structure of surrounding body parts. Falls are most often the cause of traumatic hip pain, states Dr. Dennis Schone. Trochanteric bursitis, or contusions, are the two major categories of soft tissue injuries resulting from falls. Rest is the best answer for hip pain as activity can increase the pain experienced by the patient.

Tips, from Columbus Chiropractic, for alleviating hip pain are: 1. Schedule regular chiropractic visits 2. Hip pain worsens with stress, so avoid stress at all costs 3. Get plenty of rest and don’t take on too many activities 4. A lack of muscle stamina can factor in your pain level – when you are able, find a good exercise routine 5. Stay positive; think about all of the things you can do once you are pain free

To pinpoint the cause(s) of your hip pain, your doctor of chiropractic in Pickerington may perform one of the following (or more) examinations: orthopaedic testing, neurological testing, radiography testing, etc. After thorough exams, expect a personalized treatment plan from your chiropractor.

Exercise induced lower leg pain is common among athletes. Strain in the calf muscle from biomechanical imbalances at the foot level causes the leg pain.

To understand the exact cause of the leg pain, your chiropractor, Dr. Dennis Schone, will go through your health history, as well as administer neurological and orthopaedic testing, and diagnostic radiography. The chiropractor will then develop a plan of therapy for your condition.

Osteoarthritis Treatment Pickerington

October 30th, 2010

Osteoartrhitis is a chronic inflammatory disease arising from a gradual loss of cartilage in the joints. Unlike an acute condition, Pickerington osteoarthritis is a recurrent and long-lasting illness. It is usually the hip, knees and joints of the hand that are affected in osteoarthritis. In the older population, or those 55 years old and above, an estimated 50% have osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is classified into two major types:
1. Primary osteoarthritis – can be caused by undue and repetitious strain or can be hereditary
2. Secondary osteoarthritis – comes from a previous trauma to the affected body part.

Osteoarthritis in OH is manifested by these common signs and symptoms:
1. Pain – the first symptom that moves the patient to pursue treatment and care
2. Stiffness – of joints is a characteristic that is common in the morning
3. Swelling – is a result of chronic inflammation
4. Crepitus – is a crackling sound made by bone surfaces rubbing together and there is lessened lubrication

Osteoarthritis can be alleviated by the following non-pharmacologic measures at Columbus Chiropractic:
1. Reducing weight – helps in the treatment of osteoarthritis by decreasing the stress placed on the joints
2. Exercise – increases muscle strength and encourages cartilage formation
3. Diet – include sufficient amount of calcium, Glucosamine sulfate, Chondroitin sulfate, and vitamins C & D
4. Heat – in the right temperature and length of exposure, may help in relieving pain and stiffness

Your Chiropractor, Dr. Dennis Schone, has the proper skills and training to perform a complete history and examination on you, as well as orthopaedic and neurological testing and radiograms for correctly diagnosing your osteoarthritis and its extent. Then they will design a management and treatment plan custom made to suit your specific case.

Vertigo Dizziness

October 16th, 2010

A person with vertigo has the illusion that the room is spinning or their own body is spinning. The percepted movement that occurs with vertigo is unidirectional and rotational.

This motion is viewed in two perspectives, with only a slight difference, states Dr. Dennis Schone. When the patient has a feeling of the environment revolving around him, which is objective vertigo. On the other hand, when the patient feels he is turning round and round in his milieu, which is subjective vertigo.

Dizziness is distinct from vertigo in some aspect. When the patient in OH describes his feelings as a loss of balance, light-headedness or nausea but there is no motion perception, he is describing dizziness.

Here’s what your Pickerington Chiropractor will do: get your history, examine you thoroughly and let you undergo neurological and orthopaedic tests to find out what is really causing your vertigo and dizziness. Basing on the results, they will create a plan of management suited specifically to your case.

Shin Splints Treatment Pickerington

October 15th, 2010

With shin splints, the patient complains of pain in the front or back of the lower leg that is insidious in onset upon visiting Columbus Chiropractic. Shin splints are themselves vague by description. The causative diseases of shin splints include periostitis, tendonitis, muscle strain and interosseous membrane strain.

There are basically two types of shin splints in Pickerington: 1. Anterior shin splints – this is the label given when the muscles at the front of the leg are affected. Since they are the shock absorbers, overuse due to running, walking or using shoes that are not padded will result in the force being transferred to the shin bone. As a result, a shin splint develops. 2. Posterior shin splints – involves muscles in the back of the leg. These muscles act as ankle stabilizers and appear to be overstrained when the patient over pronates.

When shin splints are present, the pain is most commonly felt at the middle to the lower third of the shin bone. An important differential for shin splints is a stress fracture, says Dr. Dennis Schone. However, x-rays often come out normal in shin splints.

Your chiropractor, of OH, will perform a thorough history and examination including orthopaedic, neurological testing and diagnostic radiography to determine the extent of you shin splints. Then a plan of management that is appropriate to your case will be developed just for you.
