Columbus On-Site X-ray

An X-ray is a quick, painless test that produces images of the structures inside your body — particularly your bones. If you need to get an on-site X-ray in Columbus, make an appointment with Dr. Dennis Schone, DC, at HealthFirst Chiropractic.

Columbus on-site X-ray tests use X-ray beams that are a form of electromagnetic radiation. The machines at our Columbus chiropractic clinic function by sending beams of a particle called photons through the body. As the photons pass through the body, an image is recorded by a computer or onto special film. Just as when taking a regular picture, Wellness Partners must stay still when having an on-site X-ray in Columbus; otherwise, the image will blur.

X-ray beams are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density body part that beams are passing through. Different shades will appear on the film of your Columbus on-site X-ray. White represents bones and any metal material in your body, since it is blocking the X-ray beams from passing through. Varying shades of gray represent areas of fat, muscle, and fluid. Any structures containing air will appear as black on your X-ray.

There are a variety of Columbus on-site X-ray tests that are offered at HealthFirst Chiropractic. Some of these tests require the use of a contrast medium, usually iodine or barium, to capture a more detailed image on your on-site X-ray in Columbus. Iodine is administered to Wellness Partners through an intravenous injection and used to enhance the view of blood vessels. Barium is taken orally, mixed with water, or by enema, and is generally used for Columbus on-site X-ray tests of the esophagus, intestines, or colon. Some Wellness Partners have experienced side effects from using contrast materials for their on-site X-ray in Columbus; they range from minor to severe, depending on the individual.

There is some preparation before getting an on-site X-ray in Columbus. Make sure to notify Dr. Schone if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or if you have an IUD inserted, prior to the exam. You will need to remove any jewelry on your body and wear a hospital gown since the metal and some clothing materials can block out parts on your X-ray film. You may also need to ingest a contrast medium if you are having specific area examined.
